On the 8th December 2001 myself and Dave Smith were back at the Town Hall to see four bands from the 1970's.
First on stage were THE KURSAAL FLYERS with original members GRAEME DOUGLAS and PAUL SHUTTLEWORTH. They performed for about 30 minutes, hwever I only remembered one song which was "Little Does She Know" which was a delight to hear.
Next up was JOHN OTWAY with his trusty side-kick RICHARD HOLGARTH. This was my first time I had seen this Madman but by the end of his set I was a complete fan. The set included tracks like "Blockbuster", "Body Talk", "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", "Really Free" (his only hit up to that point), and "House Of The Rising Sun" (shouldn't that be "Hotel Of The Rising Sun"). All these songs were performed whilst OTWAY was either doing somersaults or acting stupidly. At the end of his set I was aching with laughter.
Sanity was restored when DR FEELGOOD whose line up was now KEVIN MORRIS, PHIL MITCHELL, ROBERT KANE, STEVE WALWYN performed tracks like "Roxette", "Down At The Doctors", "Milk And Alcahol", and "Back In The Night". This was very interesting having already seen one of the previous guitarists WILKO JOHNSON.
Last to appear on stage was CANNED HEAT with the line up being JOHN PAULUS, FITO DE LA PARRA, DALLAS HODGE, STANLEY BEHRENS, GREG KAGE. Whilst I thought I only knew one of their songs "On The Road Again", however I found myself recognising and singing along to "Rollin' And Tumblin", "Going Up The Country", and "Let's Work Together" (which I had forgotten was one of their songs).
